The Artist’s World

Crossing the Atlantic Ocean on a small sailboat for 28 days, under the harshest of conditions was one of the most dramatic times of my life.  The captain of our boat was my father, and the crew was just my mother and I.  Some of my most defining moments in life have been the more memorable, and often challenging, adventures and journeys along the way.  My parents were (and still are) these incredibly interesting and diverse trailblazers:  with them I have travelled the world, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro (the highest mountain in Africa), and sailed to deserted islands.  A tight-knit family of three, I learned more about life from them then I ever did in a classroom.

I was born and raised in the frigid climate of Western Canada.  Living as close to the mountains as we did (and having a father who was in love with them), I spent a lot of time communing with nature in the Rockies; skiing, hiking, camping, and swatting very healthy mosquitoes!  I spent most of my time, however, pursuing anything artistic - flute, piano, and dancing 17 hours a week.  One of the most significant forks in the road of my life was when I started voice lessons during my last year of high school.  Suddenly, my love for music, drama, movement, and art collided into this thing called singing.  That connection to nature and the mountains which I felt growing up also seemed to be linked somehow – singing on a stage with an orchestra, strangely enough, felt a lot like standing on a mountaintop.  Singing speaks to me of things more immense than our own existence…

My path in classical singing has taken me through many years of training and performing with some of the best and brightest teachers, conductors, directors and musicians of our time.  I received my Undergraduate and Masters degrees from The New England Conservatory of Music as a member of the Opera Program, and went on to achieve my Doctorate in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado at Boulder.  Somewhere along the road I also started painting, and my home is filled with my own art.  Since meeting my husband, best friend, and business partner through a most amazing turn of events, I have continued to refine my beliefs about music and art.  I sing for the love of it.  I sing to move people in a unique and powerful way.  I sing to inspire.

I now spend my time appreciating all that life has to offer, travelling the globe with my incredible husband, singing, painting, and staying connected and balanced.

Thank you for taking the time and interest to get to know a little of the person behind the artist…
